Pinckney's Timber Trace Golf Club: The Course You'll Remember
PINCKNEY, Mich. - Timber Trace Golf Club, a Conroy/Dewling design, is part of the Michigan Grand Golf Trail challenge and might be just what you're looking for if an "up north" golf experience is your choice. Carved out of mature oaks, large maples and rows of tall standing pines surround this beautiful layout.
It is nestled in Putnam Meadows a 650-acre golf and equestrian community two miles west of Pinckney on M-36. Putnam Meadows has of outstanding amenities such as one-acre wooded lots and scenic overlooks. But the homes seldom come in to view as you wind your way through this spectacular 18-hole golf course.
From the very first tee you will find this to be a player friendly course that plays over 6900 yards from the tips and 5193 from the forward markers. Timber Trace is an upscale public course offering a practice range, putting green, full service club, grill and pub, outing pavilion, golf outing planning/management, USGA handicap service and of course, a full-service golf shop.
Timber Trace features bent grass fairways, five sets of tees at every box and large greens. One of the most impressive features of TT is its generous landing areas off the tee. It also offers one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Livingston County. Lake Wallaby nature preserve is part of the overall look you will experience.
After your final putt on the 12th hole you get the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful 5-8 minute ride to the 13th through this natural habitat. The next four holes offer a different look and course management strategy to your game. More of a links/meadows design. Back on the 17th you face a 142 yard par three that sets you up for one of the prettiest finishing holes I have played.
A 384-yard par four from the back tees with a slight dog leg left into a sloping green surrounded by stadium type landscape. It reminds me of some of the TPC courses where spectator seating or bowl type mounds surround the green. What a great way to cap off a fun round of golf on a truly spectacular golf course.
Trent Smith, the head professional speaks proudly of Timber Trace's friendly staff and playable conditions. I can attest to this. As their literature states, "The Course You'll Remember".
You can reach Timber Trace by exiting US-23 on to M-36 and head west toward Pinckney. Stay on M-36 through Pinckney approximately 4 miles to Putnam Meadows. Call (734) 878-1800 for tee times.
