Northern Michigan's True North Golf Club delights reader despite high green fees
In an area that has quite a healthy number of excellent golf-course offerings, True North Golf Club in Harbor Springs, Mich., really places itself close to the very top of the list, in my humble opinion. I played this golf course in late summer 2006 and it is simply an awesome track.
The layout and views are great, with plenty of risk-reward offerings for all levels of players. Even towards the end of the season, when I played, the course was in excellent condition, providing a memorable experience.
The only two things that can be considered in the negative about this course in my mind are that it is slated to become entirely private once they have sufficient membership and the high cost to play it as a non-member. I am glad I had the opportunity to play it one time before it becomes private. If you really want to treat yourself you may consider doing the same.

This is one of the great tracks in the country let alone Michigan. I understand it will be public soon with a seasonal membership that has preferred tee times, and fee discounts...makes sense...everyone ought to be able to play this. Bogey man

Bogey Man, what you are saying is totaly correct about the golf course and the status of the club. True North is still taking memberships with the ultimate goal to become fully private. At the present time it is open to resort play and will be at all times this season. The club is currently putting in men's and ladies locker rooms as well as breaking ground on golf cottages this fall. If you have not played True North it is definitely a must for all golf enthusist you love a great lay out and unbelievable conditions.

Actually, things have changed at True North. It IS a fantastic golf course in superb condition, but is no longer open to the public. Now private, the only way to play is to be invited or to take advantage of a one-time stay and play package which allows potential members or those considering it to enjoy the property, including the spacious cottages, now completed. You can call the club for details.
