It doesn't get any better than Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon
ROSCOMMON, Mich. -- The opening of the 14-room Lake AuSable Lodge in May provides golfers another reason to visit Forest Dunes Golf Club within the Huron National Forest.
Not that the spectacular 7,116-yard Tom Weiskopf course needed one.
Forest Dunes already wows players with top service, a massive Adirondack-style golf clubhouse, greens as good as any in the country and a course ranked no. 23 among the "Top 100 Public Golf Courses" by Golf Digest.
The name implies all golfers need to know about the routing. Weiskopf masterfully found corridors through the trees on the front nine, while the back meanders through more open meadows and sandy waste areas.
There are great risk-reward opportunities throughout Forest Dunes Golf Club, especially on the tee shots of the par 4s at nos. 6, 10 and 17. The magical setting surrounding the clubhouse -- highlighted by a massive pond and sand dunes -- comes to life on the final two par 3s, the 203-yard ninth hole and the 120-yard 19th, an extra bye hole with a bunker in the middle of the green.
