BELLAIRE, MI - Shanty Creek Golf Resort, Bellaire, Michigan, will host the 3rd Great Lakes Junior Masters on June 24-28, and serves as the site for both young men and young woman's National Regional Championship as well 14 and under Future Masters Players for boy' and girls.
The Future Master's Players will play on Monday and Tuesday in age groups.
The men 15-20 year olds will compete on the Hidden River Course designed by Tom Weiskopf. The 15-20 year-old ladies will compete on the Summit Course.
This is Shanty Creeks first MSAGA championship.
The Championship is to be played over 18 holes of qualifying and match play for the lowest 64 for men and 32 for woman. The women will have a second flight if the entries allow. Eligibility requirements in the open divisions are having Handicap Indexes not exceeding 8.5 for men and 22.5 ladies under the USGA System. The young men's Championship drew many elite players from the mid-west and included players from the Big 10, The MAC, other states, and Michigan's best High Schooler's.
Last year Mark McIntosh - Gaylord defeated Chad Horner - Essexville 2 up in a high drama match with over 100 spectators in attendance. McIntosh announced after his victory that he would attend the University of Michigan to play golf in the Fall. Horner went on win Michigan's highest honor winning the 2001 Michigan State Junior Golf Championship at Charlevoix C.C. He also made the 2001 Michigan High School Dream Team as one of the eight best high school players for 2001.
McIntosh will defend his crown in June at Shanty Creek.
