Early in Season - greens still sanded but still quick
Played on Good Friday, sunny but cool (temps didn't get out of the high 40's). Greens are smaller and have more slope but less undulations than greens on its sister course. Fun to see the course pre-growth before all the hazards and native grasses mature for the season. Pace was slow (4.5 hours) likely due to the 1:45 frost delay, but it was still very pleasant. As the marshals are quite diligent in having groups keep pace, I'm thinking the slow play issue will disappear as we get into the heart of the season.
Challenging and huge green complexes
This was the second time I played the course this season and fared better with some built in knowledge after playing earlier. Course is tough but fair. Greens are big and fast. Looking forward to playing here again next weekend.
One of Michigan’s Best
Sharf was design by Smith and Henderson, the same group the did Arcadia Bluffs. This one does not have lake views, but it has everything else: big bold greens, elevation changes and superb conditions.
This is a must play if you can get on.
Great Course
Oakland U has two of the best courses not only Detroit Area, but Michigan. Katie has been slowly been altered one hole at a time, not much remaining of Bob Beard’s original design other than the layout.
Course conditions are very good and the layout flows well over the hilly terrain. If u get an opportunity to play take it.
If you have the chance, take it
After playing its neighboring course Katke Cousins multiple times, I was able to get on to the Sharf. Beautiful layout, feels like you are in up-north Michigan playing! Can’t hear any cars which is surprising as it is in metro Detroit. Giant drop off tee shots with views, rolling hills, and a lot of fun. Beautiful clubhouse with a great restaurant, large short area practice facility with multiple greens, range with grass and mats, what more can you ask for. If you can get on, spend the money and play it. In comparison, I prefer this course over shepherd’s hollow and other highly rated courses. Feels a lot like treetops….
