Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Michigan (2022 #16)
Reviews
All Around Excellent
We're a group of 17-24 handicappers. We all found this course very challenging but fair. From tee to green this course is immaculate. The carts are new and well maintained. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Every hole presents a new golf experience with variations in shape, altitude and water hazards. A pleasure to play and worth every cent.
Beautiful Palmer Designed course!!
Absolutely gorgeous!! Fast and challenging green. Ball placement is key at each hole. White tee 5627 with 67.2/122. Blue tee 6193 with 70.0/128. Got killed on the front nine it shot 40’s on back nine. 17th short hole hitting across the pond with bunkers waiting was beautiful view!!
Always a great time
Always a great time at Northville Hills. The course is always challenging from the front nine to the back nine. Each hole has unique layouts and aggressive pins placements. Probably play this course at-least 7-8 times a year. Staff is amazing.
Price point is typical for the area.
Great course
We enjoy the course because we like the variations in the course challenges . Staff is always friendly and pace of play usually decent.
Not so nice
It looked like a nice place when we pulled up but that's where it is you're looking for a house might be a good place so pace of play over 5 hours and not a friendly staff
Great course
It's pretty easy to tell (2 'players' submitting multiple awful reviews on the same day or one day apart) that there's a disgruntled former employee or someone else with a bone to pick trying to crush the course rating, so I thought I'd provide a real review.
I've played NVH probably 400 times in the last 15 years. The holes are challenging but fair - hardly any blind shots, and the greens run fast and true. In terms of conditioning, it's frankly immaculate, on par or better than most private courses.. It is a public course - no one is going to run out to the parking lot to grab your clubs or fall all over themselves kissing your butt every minute. But the staff is friendly and wants you to have a good time. It's one of the higher priced public courses in Metro Detroit, but it's also consistently ranked in the top 10 places you can play in the tri-county area too, and for good reason. It's a great course to play.
Shockingly bad
Too bad when you drive up kind of looks nice except that little fountain nobody runs to your car to grab your clubs in fact when you get there they don't even help put it on the cart they take your money and tell you to proceed to the Tee 10 minutes before your tee time you virtually unaware of the range unless you ask because it's so far away then get ready for the time of your life 5 and 1/2 hours atrocious when you get done a kid ask you if you want your clubs clean to make a couple bucks and that's it you're pretty much on your own here all day no customer service talked to a person says they have a low membership so they have to have a lot of outings and leauges so they're not used to real golfers but anyway nice golf course nice piece of property horrible horrible staff I really don't know how the members take it
Disappointment
You would think that an Arnold Palmer Golf Course would be a top-notch organization but it's not. When you arrive at Bay Hill Big Lot either way to let you know that you are there guest the bend over backwards so you feel like you're the most important person there if you want the total opposite experience go to Northville Hills once they take your money you might as well be invisible legs weddings outings that's my money maker not a golf course
Best value in Metro Detroit
What a great course. I have played many private clubs that do not even come close to be in as good of condition as Northville Hills. We make sure to visit Northville Hills every time we are in the area. Great value I would expect to pay double to play a course of this caliber elsewhere.
TO SLOW PACE OF PLAY
Decent Arnold Palmer signature course. The course was playing to slow at almost 5 hours on a weekday afternoon is not acceptable for what they charge for the privilege of playing their course. Not enough ball washers on the course either which is a disappointment. Apparently they are having problems with people stealing them. Their problem now becomes my problem, not acceptable. Also, they had aerated 3 of the fairways on the back 9 which was a pain to hit off of, quit large chunks of soil and no roll of your ball. Not offered a discount or voucher when I asked in the proshop said their boss had left for the day. Poor customer service.
Overall a nice course, poor customer service, not enough ball washers on the course and horrible pace of play. Good once a year at best.
Glad I checked it out
Gorgeous course conditions. Undulations everywhere. Not just on the greens. Challenging yet fair if you play the right set of tees for your game. Don't be afraid to admit you might need to play the more forward tees. Great experience each and every time I've played there. Well worth checking it out. We generally like to play in 31/2 hours or quicker but we usually play here in 41/4 hours. Well worth it
They should pay you to play unfriendly staff exclude the wait staff they even make jokes about how people complain the pace of play is truly intolerable but really what you would expect from a golf course in a subdivision that looks like suburbia 700 houses 3 models generic just like the facade that is northville hills...
