Hole No. 12 at Clarkston Creek Isn't That Bad

By Ray Brewer, Contributor

CLARKSTON, Mich.- Imagine golfing a course where the signature hole isn't too overpowering.

Don't laugh. This is not a joke.

In all reality, hole No. 12 at Clarkston Creek Golf Club is one that can be conquered by anyone.

Yes Mr. Weekend Warrior, this also includes you.

Clarkston Creek head professional Eric Hiner has some pointers on earning a good score at his club's signature hole.

THE HOLE: a par-4, 412-yard hole that resembles others holes on the course.

This hole, similar to its neighboring holes, follows a wide open and well-manicured fairway.

THE LAYOUT: There is a dogleg slightly to the right of the green hidden by big trees with marsh on the outskirts.

THE STRATEGY: This is where Hiner takes control.

"Place you tee shot to the left side of the fairway," he instructs. "Depending on your length, you can hit a three-wood to left side of the fairway." Anything that slices to the right will just separate you from your foursomes. If you stay out of the dogleg, than this whole is winnable.

Once you attempt to hit onto the green, Hiner advises: "You can't miss the green and you wan to the middle of the green."

DON'T PLAY: "The hole is not super long, so you don't want to hit too much club," Hiner said.

And once again, AVOID THE RIGHT SIDE.
